Hardwood flooring is no more difficult to care for than other types of flooring, but one caveat: think prevention. The more you can do to protect your hardwood flooring, the longer your flooring will last.
How Often Should You Vacuum?
Most modern hardwood flooring has a Urethane finish that doesn’t need special waxes or polishes like the old traditional hardwoods. In the case of hardwood floors, prevention means keeping the surface clean of grit and other abrasives that can scratch the surface.

Sweeping and vacuuming your flooring will go a long way to keeping the finish looking like new.

For more thorough cleaning, most manufacturers sell special no-wax cleaners—these are available at Imperial Flooring. Special cleaners and waxes (for wax finished wood floors) are also available. Stay away from oil base waxes that will dull the surface and even permanently damage your beautiful floors.

Wax finish floors should be waxed once or twice a year, and a buffing between waxing will restore the rich look of wood. As always, ask the experts at Imperial Floors if you have questions.
